Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation’s SIP Week Launch 2023
Support Paralysis Research
In a heart-warming display of community support and solidarity, the Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation’s SIP Week 2023 campaign exceeded all expectations, raising an impressive $403,163 in funds to advance paralysis research. The week-long initiative, held from the 4th to the 10th of September, brought people from all walks of life together to sip for a cause, with CocoCoast Coconut Water adding a refreshing touch to the campaign’s launch events.
A Cause that Hits Close to Home
The Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation’s mission to find a paralysis cure holds immense significance in Australia, where an average of one person sustains a spinal cord injury every day. With 20,800 Australians living with paralysis and 400 new cases emerging annually, their mission goes beyond aspiration—it’s a vital necessity.
At the core of their efforts lies a pioneering clinical trial involving cell transplantation and rehabilitation—a world-first initiative that offers hope and healing to 10 individuals grappling with spinal cord injuries. This ground-breaking endeavour aims to transform lives and rewrite the narratives of those living with paralysis.
SIP Week 2023: A Simple Gesture with Profound Impact
The SIP Week challenge, a central component of the Foundation’s fundraising efforts, called on participants to drink all beverages through a straw, mirroring the daily reality of those with high-level spinal cord injuries.
This symbolic act reminded everyone of the daily struggles faced by individuals living with paralysis.
SIP Week wasn’t about grand gestures; it celebrated the power of collective action in the simplest of ways—by sipping through a straw. This unique approach resonated with many, highlighting the strength of unity in the pursuit of a cure.
CocoCoast Coconut Water: A Refreshing Start to SIP Week
Adding an extra layer of refreshment to SIP Week, CocoCoast proudly supported the campaign’s launch events. The CocoCoast range provided a hydrating and enjoyable kick-off to the week’s activities, supporting the overall experience and setting the stage for a successful fundraising effort.

A Resounding Success
The results of SIP Week 2023 have been nothing short of remarkable. The campaign garnered widespread support, with individuals from all corners of Australia sipping, donating, sharing, and rallying behind the cause. The grand total of $403,163 raised includes matching donations from generous benefactors Nicola and Andrew Forrest.
The Foundation also recognised key contributors to the campaign. SIP Week Ambassador Georgia Curr’s brave sharing of her story provided inspiration to all participants. Clodagh Sibbald emerged as the highest individual fundraiser, raising an impressive $14,507. Making Strides, the winning team, collectively raised $47,788, while Genny Kroll-Rosen claimed the SeaWorld Resort Gold Coast stay prize.
The success of SIP Week 2023 would not have been possible without the support of sponsors, including Making Strides and Molmike Medical, and the ‘sip’porters, Village Roadshow Theme Parks, Sargood on Collaroy, HiSmile, ByGreen, and Worklocker.
Looking Ahead to SIP Week 2024
As the community reflects on the incredible achievements of SIP Week 2023, the Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation invites everyone to save the date for SIP Week 2024. The journey towards a cure for paralysis continues, and the Foundation promises to keep supporters updated on the profound impact of their contributions.
