The Beginning of a Two-Year Partnership
The Billabong Occy’s Grom Comp 2026 marked the beginning of CocoCoast’s two-year appointment as Presenting Partner of one of Australian surfing’s premier junior events.
Held over five days at Snapper Rocks on Queensland’s Gold Coast, the 21st edition of the event brought together Australia’s leading junior surfers, thousands of spectators and some of surfing’s most recognised names for one of the country’s most anticipated events on the junior calendar.
For CocoCoast, the partnership represents more than event sponsorship. It reflects a commitment to supporting Australian surfing at the grassroots level, investing in the people, events and communities that continue to shape the future of the sport.
Finals Day Delivered One of the Week’s Defining Moments
One of the biggest moments of the week came on Finals Day when 11-time World Champion Kelly Slater, World Champion Mark Occhilupo and Jay Occhilupo paddled out for the Occy & Friends exhibition heat.
For competitors and spectators alike, it was a rare opportunity to watch two generations of surfing excellence share the lineup at one of the world’s most iconic point breaks while Australia’s next generation prepared to contest their own finals just metres away.

Supporting the Next Generation of Australian Surfing
The Billabong Occy’s Grom Comp continues to be recognised as one of Australia’s leading junior surfing competitions and an important pathway for emerging athletes.
Across five days, young surfers from around the country competed at Snapper Rocks, testing themselves in one of surfing’s most respected locations.
Behind every heat is a community of parents, coaches, volunteers, officials and organisers whose commitment continues to strengthen Australian surfing from the grassroots up.
A Week Beyond the Competition
While the competition remained the focus, the event also brought together surf brands, families, volunteers and partners from across Australia. The atmosphere at Snapper Rocks throughout the week reflected everything that makes grassroots surfing unique—a shared passion for the sport and a commitment to supporting the next generation.
Inside the CocoCoast Activation
Throughout the week, the CocoCoast activation became a place where competitors, families, industry partners and surf fans naturally came together.
The Powerstation Co served CocoCoast floats throughout the event, Billabong riders dropped in between heats, and visitors experienced the CocoCoast range while enjoying one of Australia’s great surfing events.
One of the week’s highlights was a live signing session with Mark Occhilupo, who signed a JS Industries Bull Run Mark Occhilupo Signature surfboard before it was presented to the winner of CocoCoast’s major giveaway.
